Hitachi, Ltd. today announced in order to strengthen cost competitiveness and improve 
business efficiency, the refrigerator and room air conditioner mass-production design 
and manufacturing functions of the Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Division will be 
transferred to a new company, Hitachi Tochigi Technology Co., Ltd., which will start 
operations on July 21, 1998.

The Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Division will be able concentrate on product 
planning, development and marketing, while the new company will handle the design 
and manufacturing side.  This reorganization will provide a new flexibility attuned to 
the rapid changes taking place in the marketplace, and is expected to strengthen the 
company's competitiveness.

Capital:	450 million yen (100% provided by Hitachi, Ltd.)
Establishment:	July 1, 1998 (operations to start July 21)

Sales:		The sales target for 2000 is 50 billion yen
