Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501) today announced the HD74ALVC1G Series* of unilogic ICs,
incorporating one gate in a package and transmitting digital signals at high speed,
for use in small, low-voltage, high-speed systems such as mobile phones, digital
still cameras, and notebook PCs. A total of five models, including the HD74ALVC1G00,
are being released in the initial phase, with sample shipments beginning in April
2001 in Japan.

This series is designed for low-voltage systems with a power supply voltage
of 1.2 V to 3.6 V, and offers a data transfer speed of 3.0 ns (max. at Vcc = 3.3 V),
approximately three times faster than Hitachi's previous models. The series also
uses a small, thin package that ranks with the industry's smallest for unilogic ICs
(package size: 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm x 0.55 mm (typ.).

[Background]
With the recent advances in mobile phone functionality the use of digital signals
has been growing, and the potential has increased for the use of standard logic ICs.
In addition, products such as notebook PCs and digital still cameras have shown
remarkable progress in terms of miniaturization and higher speed, and there is a
growing demand for unilogic ICs that support distributed matching system design that
eliminates the need for circuitous wiring.

In response to this demand, Hitachi last year began mass production of the HD74LV1G-A
Series of small, high-speed unilogic ICs, and has now followed this up with the
development of five models in the HD74ALVC1G Series offering even faster data transfer
and a smaller package.

[About these Products]
The HD74ALVC1G Series employs a 0.35 μm process and special circuit design techniques
to achieve higher speed together with smaller size and a lower voltage. The 3.0 ns
data transfer speed (tpd)(max. at Vcc = 3.3 V) represents an approximately threefold
increase over Hitachi's current HD74LV1G-A Series (tpd = 9.5 ns max. at Vcc = 3.3 V).

The new series uses a VSON-5 (Hitachi package code) ultra-small, thin package that
offers an approximately 40% reduction in board mounting area compared with current
CMPAK-5 (Hitachi package code) products. With a lead pitch of 0.5 mm and thickness
of 0.55 mm (typ.), the VSON-5 package enables end-products to be made even
smaller.

The power supply voltage range of 1.2 V to 3.6 V makes the new series suitable for
low-voltage systems, while a built-in input/output tolerant function enables the
series to be used for interfacing between different signal levels, such as in systems
with a mix of power supply voltages.

The following five models are being released as the first products in the
HD74ALVC1G Series.

HD74ALVC1G00 (2-input NAND function)
HD74ALVC1G08 (2-input AND function)
HD74ALVC1G02 (2-input NOR function)
HD74ALVC1G32 (2-input OR function)
HD74ALVC1G86 (2-input EX-OR function)

Future extension of the product lineup will include the release of the following
ten models.

HD74ALVC1G04 (Inverter function)
HD74ALVC1G06 (Open-drain inverter function)
HD74ALVC1G07 (Open-drain buffer function)
HD74ALVC1G14 (Schmitt-trigger inverter function)
HD74ALVC1G66 (Analog switch function)
HD74ALVC1G79 (D-type flip-flop function)
HD74ALVC1G80 (D-type flip-flop function)
HD74ALVC1G125 (3-state buffer function)
HD74ALVC1G126 (3-state buffer function)
HD74ALVC1G240 (3-state buffer function)

The new HD74ALVC1G Series features common specifications through a technical
tie-up with Texas Instruments Incorporated of the USA.
