Participation in the Work-Life Balance Project
On the occasion of the December 2007 meeting of the Council of Executives of Public and Private Sectors to Promote Work-Life Balance, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) formulated a Charter for Work-Life Balance as well as an Action Policy for Promoting Work-Life Balance. In fiscal 2008, it launched a Project for the Promotion of Work-Life Balance Project with 10 companies selected as participants.
Hitachi, Ltd. is taking part in this project and has initiated various undertakings as outlined below.
To strengthen Hitachi's business foundations as it approaches its 100th anniversary in 2010, we will pursue diversity with the stimulation of human resources and workplaces in the interest of ensuring that Hitachi is a company that encourages each and every employee to embrace their dreams and aspirations and enables them to lead rewarding and worthwhile careers.
To date, Hitachi has developed and implemented an assortment of frameworks to assist employees with their childcare and nursing-care needs, including leaves of absence, shortened workdays, and the establishment of day-care facilities, and also established a flex-time framework and other systems.
Additionally, it has pursued a variety of undertakings led by the Diversity Promotion Project, which reports directly to the President, in collaboration with human resources and labor related departments as well as various business groups.
