Corporate InformationEnvironmental Activities

Hitachi group has started new five-year plan in fiscal year 2011 to accelerate the activity for reducing environmental burden. In this plan, Eco-products Select are products newly set to develop the product with higher environmental performance.

Eco-products Select are those eco-products and services having especially high environmental efficiency -- an index reflecting reductions in greenhouse gas (i.e. CO2) emissions and consumption of resources and increases in product and service values.

'Eco-products Select' are designated products and services that meet one of the following four conditions:

  1. A global warming prevention or resource factor of 10 or more (Reference year was changed from 2000 to 2005, and the number of functions was reduced)
  2. An industry leader level in terms of environmental performance
  3. Award-winning or publicly certified
  4. CO2 reduction ratio of 50% or more from fiscal year 2005

Those conditions require higher environmental performance than Super Eco-products until fiscal year 2010.

Formula for Global Warming Prevention Factor

First, find the efficiency of global warming prevention of new product (product being evaluated).

[Image] Calculation of Efficiency of Global Warming Prevention

  • Products designed to save energy during operation
  • Products designed to require fewer manufacturing processes and less energy
  • Products designed to enable mass distribution (product downsizing)
  • Product parts and materials selected that emit less gas which leads to global warming over the entire product life cycle

The greater the 'global warming prevention factor', the greater 'factor X' and the benefit towards realizing a 'new affluence.'

Formula for Resource Factor

First, find the resource efficiency of new product (product being evaluated).
