Environmental Activities

Hitachi

In December 2007, the Hitachi Group established a long-term plan ' Environmental Vision 2025' with the goal of achieving a more sustainable society while protecting the global environment.
To achieve this, Hitachi will strive to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with Hitachi Group products by 100 million tons commencing in FY2025.

By the way, how large is a volume of 100 million tons?
For example, to absorb 100 million tons of CO2, it would require an artificial cedar forest of about 130,000 square kilometers.
This is equivalent to an area of 360 square kilometers, or about one-third of Japan' s territory, or more specifically, the total area of Hokkaido and Kyushu.

The above estimate is the result of calculations for an annual absorption of CO2 by cedar forest based on assumptions made by the Forestry Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with artificial forests of 80-year-old cedars, which are maintained well, account for around 170 tons of CO2 per one hectare (2.471 acres)(*1)
