In December 2020, regarding the targets for the reduction in GHG emissions by FY2030, Hitachi, Ltd. obtained accreditation of “Targets for 1.5℃” of limiting global warming caused by climate change to below 1.5℃ above pre-industrial level, by the Science Based Targets(SBT)initiative which is an international body.


The targets formulated by Hitachi, Ltd. are as follows.

Hitachi, Ltd. commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 100% by 2030 from a 2010 base year. Hitachi, Ltd. also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 40% over the same time frame. The targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from company operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C.

Scope 1, 2 and 3 present the classification for GHG emissions in the entire supply chain of an organization based on the GHG protocol. Scope 1 and 2 cover the emissions from the business sites (factories/offices). Scope 3 covers the indirect emissions in the company's value chain, excluding emissions covered by scopes 1 and 2.
