Achieving two goals together: enhancing productivity while improving energy savings.

Omiya Plant, Hitachi Nico Transmission Co., Ltd., located in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture in Japan, manufactures power transmission equipment, such as “transmissions” and “gears”, for medium/large-sized ships and various industries.  In the ship industry, it is the technology and market share leader in Japan.  This environmentally conscious factory is committed to strengthening daily energy saving activities while improving production efficiency.  To achieve these goals together, energy-saving air compressors and high-efficiency amorphous transformers have been installed to reduce power consumption.  By replacing the fuel for heating facilities with natural gas and diesel engines for product testing with motors, CO2, NOx, and other exhaust gas emissions have also been reduced.  These approaches reduced the energy per unit production by about 50% compared to FY 2005 while improving production efficiency.

The factory received the Inspiration Award/Excellence Prize (group participation) at the 2012 Hitachi Group Green Curtain Contest.

A contra-rotating propeller system has two propellers that are coaxially arranged and rotated in directions opposite to each other to improve propulsion efficiency. The epicyclic reduction gear is used to rotate the propellers in directions opposite to each other. The height of this product exceeds 3 m.
