Kyoto City is the place where the Kyoto Protocol, an international framework for preventing global warming, was drafted. We visited the Kyoto Works of Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. to get some tips on what we should do to make the environment of Kyoto City safe for the next generation.

Kyoto City is the place where the Kyoto Protocol, ratified by 125 nations including Japan, Canada and those in the European Union, was drafted. The Kyoto Works of Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. is promoting environmentally conscious and energy efficient business activities well suited to the city where this Protocol was drafted. As a super eco-factory in Kyoto, the Kyoto Works puts a special focus on reductions in greenhouse effect gas emissions.

After 20 years at his position for manufacturing magnetic paints for audio and video tapes, he moved to the Environment Group in 1999. Since then, he has been actively promoting environmental work together with the local residents, and has contributed to the acquisition of ISO certification. He is popular among local children and endearingly called 'Mr. Takahashi of Environment!'
