  We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to all those who have suffered in the South Asia earthquake and tsunami disaster that struck on December 26, 2004, and hope that the regions affected will be able to make a full recovery in the near future.

  After making an assessment of the conditions in the aftermath of the disaster, the Hitachi group decided on January 27 to provide disaster relief as listed below. Various local group companies not mentioned in this table are also currently planning to provide support in the form of money and supplies.
As of January 27, 2005

Hitachi, Ltd. Will contribute a total of 20 million yen.

Hitachi Metals, Ltd. Will contribute 2 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Singapore branch will donate US$1,000.
Hitachi Cable, Ltd. Will contribute 2 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd. Will contribute 2 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Hitachi Capital Will contribute 1 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
The company's Employee Volunteer Club, CI & Public Relations Department (Social Contribution Section) made a joint appeal for donations from employees from January 11 to 18. Donations will be sent to UNICEF and others.
Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. Will provide free use of construction machinery and operator dispatch with a total value of 100 million yen.
Hitachi Kokusai Electric Inc. Will contribute 600,000, yen to be paid through Nippon-Keidanren.
Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd. Releasing satellite images and analysis results to help with tsunami damage assessment and recovery.
Will also contribute 600,000 yen.
Hitachi Transport System Ltd. Will contribute 1 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society.


Hitachi Asia Ltd. Will contribute a total of S$9,532 to the Singapore Red Cross.
(S$4,532 in employee donations, S$5,000 from Hitachi Asia)
Hitachi Metals Singapore Pte. Ltd. Will donate US$1,000.
Hitachi Asia (M) Sdn Bhd Will contribute RM 5,000 to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.
Hitachi India Pvt. Ltd. and Hitachi-Kai of India Will contribute 1 million INR
Hitachi-Kai of Indonesia Will contribute two hydraulic shovels and one year’s running expenses (including operation, maintenance, etc.) along with a total of US$162,000 to BAKORNAS (Coordination Board of Disaster Tackling and Refugee Handling) and the Aceh District Government.


Hitachi (china) Ltd. "Beijing" Will contribute RMB 5,000 to the China Red Cross Society.
Hitachi china Ltd. "Beijing" Will contribute RMB 5,000 to the China Red Cross Society.
"Hong Kong" Will contribute HK$ 10,500 to the Salvation Army
Hitachi Metals, Ltd. Beijing branch Will donate RMB1,000.
HITACHI CREDIT (HONG KONG) Limited Will contribute HK$ 50,000
HITACHI ELEVATOR ENGINEERING CO.,(HONG KONG) LTD Will contribute HK$ 28,888 to World Vision

North America

Hitachi America, Ltd. Will contribute US$10,000.
Hitachi in North America Join the Relief Effort
Hitachi Canada Ltd. Will contribute C$5,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for Tsunami Relief Efforts
Hitachi Metals America, Ltd. Will contribute US$5,000.
Hitachi High Technologies America, Inc. Will match employee donations submitted through HTA with a target company-match total of $10,000. We have selected UNICEF and The USA Freedom Corps. as the recipient of our donation.
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Will contribute US$75,000 to UNICEF

Babcock-Hitachi Europe GmbH A seperate contribution of EUR 5,000 for the tidal flood victims went to " Friedensdorf International ", an organization which has transported aid into South-East Asia several times over the past few weeks. Around EUR 2,500 of this sum had been donated by the BHE workforce for the flood victims; this was then doubled by the management to a round figure of EUR 5,000.

Hitachi Automotive Products Europe Ltd. Made a company donation to the Tsunami fund of 1000.00 pounds. We have also this month collected donations from individual employees and a further 510.00 pound will be forwarded to the fund by the end of the month.


Hitachi Foundation Will provide a grant in the amount of $10,000 to Room to Read, an organization that is rebuilding schools in Sri Lanka and India.
