Overview

Many business networks are faced with the problem of network operating costs caused by a configuration consisting of a variety of communication lines. Organizations with such networks need to reduce operating costs by aggregating lines into a high-speed network to enable streamlined processing of growing volumes of data. Hitachi provides a solution that can turn a complex network between the head offices and branch offices into one that is simpler and faster.

In the solution, dark fibers are used in the backbone network, an AMN6200 point-to-point configuration is used to create a network with a single-core bidirectional optical multiplex transmission system, and a multi-rate transponder is used. The result is a network with different client interfaces, including Ethernet, SDH/SONET, and ATM, those are installed on the same shelf.

The single-core bidirectional optical multiplex transmission system increases communication line speed, while the smaller number of fiber cores can reduce enterprise network operating costs. Furthermore, the AMN6200 can also be used for long-haul transmission by incorporating optical amplifiers. The AMN6200 also maximizes the use of existing facilities and equipment through its use of a multi-rate transponder, thereby lowering initial investment costs.
