Hitachi proposes optical multiplex transmission using a multi-rate transponder including Ethernet, SDH/SONET, ATM, and Fibre Channel (FC). The transmission is single-core bidirectional and point-to-point configuration. In this arrangement, system redundancy for transmission lines is provided, assuring connectivity between remote data centers and facilitating disaster recovery.
Using multi-rate transponders enables directly connecting remote storage systems . Furthermore, optical wavelength multiplexing means fewer optical fiber cores and increased transmission capacity, and with system redundancy, ensuring reliable transport system. Besides, with the installation of both an FC interface and a GbE interface, various hosting services can be set up in the data center.
