Explanation

Expert systems are computer programs for performing reasoning on the basis of specialized knowledge accumulated in advance, eliciting conclusions in place of an expert, and making judgments based on those conclusions. Developed on the basis of research on artificial intelligence (AI), they received a jump start from the AI boom in the 1980s. As other systems developed on the basis of research on AI, machine translation systems and image understanding systems are two examples.
