Explanation

Membrane fabrication refers to covering the surface of a substance with membranes, or coating, conducted to protect the substance from wear or breaking and to insulate it from heat or electric current, among other purposes.

As far as fabrication of ceramic membranes is concerned, typical methods employed include method of decomposing ceramics to an atomic or molecular level and then having them deposited on the surface of a substance, and method of melting and spraying ceramics onto a substance. In recent years, research is under way on the aerosol deposition method in which ceramic particles are sprayed on a substance directly without being melted.

Applications of the ceramic membrane fabrication include protection of cutting tools, heat resistance of gas turbines and insulation of electronic devices.
