Explanation

A microlens is a tiny lens that is made of plastic or other such material. An arrangement of a large number of them is call a microlens array. Recently, products have been developed that combine extremely small lens on the order of microns in size (1µm=1/1000 mm) in arrays of millions of lens. The manufacturing processes vary widely from conventional metal mold fabrication to the application of ink-jet or other such printing technology and semiconductor technology. Their uses include the backlighting for cell phone liquid crystal displays, liquid crystal projectors and so on.
