Explanation

A system designed to optimize the use of electrical power. Computers installed at various points throughout the power grid are used to gain a detailed understanding of supply and demand for power and to control the flow of power accordingly. Smart grid is also called the next-generation power supply network.
Since the system is able to control the balance of supply and demand for power, it can be used to stabilize power supply when utilizing "natural energy" sources such as wind and solar, which tend to provide a less-stable supply.
