Explanation

In regard to LAN equipment that applies the IEEE 802.11 series of technical standards, "Wi-Fi" is a brand name referring to technology that assures connectivity between products of competing companies. It was made for the growth of wireless LAN. Compatibility testing and approval is carried out by an industrial organization called the Wi-Fi Alliance, and the "Wi-Fi" logo is displayed on the packages of products that subsequently pass the tests. Since similar products displaying the "Wi-Fi" logo can be interconnected, and when consumers use a combination of LAN equipment, the chosen product is indicated.
