Collaboration Space

Hitachi Open Lab Yokohama

Hitachi Open Lab Yokohama is a place for prototyping and value verification using Hitachi's cutting-edge technologies, as a process of collaborative creation with customers and partenrs to achieve open innovation together.

A MONOZUKURI environment of the future providing both information technology (IT) such as supply chain simulation as well as operational technology (OT) such as work-anomaly detection and robotics. Visions for future MONOZUKURI will be co-created with industrial customers through MONOZUKURI in which humans, things, facilities and process are connected to each other.

An environment to accurately "scan" and grasp specifications and usage of current IT systems, and efficiently test the quality of new systems being considered. Specifications for the next-generation system with newly-added functions can be quickly co-created based on "scan" results.

A simulated environment for transportation systems such as railway, bus, trucks and private vehicles. Visions for future transportation systems will be co-created with transport-related customers through technologies for data analytics, artificial intelligence, simulation and system collaboration that enable the rapid validation required when integrating and optimizing various tasks such as timetable scheduling, traffic management, operational control, maintenance, etc. for railways.

An environment equipped with cutting-edge data processing & analytics, artificial intelligence, open-source software (OSS) and DevOps (development & operations) to experience the benefits of IoT data utilization. Solutions to technical challenges in data utilization are co-created with customers using actual data.

An environment to visualize the potential security threats in customer systems and experience the effectiveness of countermeasures using cutting-edge IoT-era security technologies such as data analytics, artificial intelligence and simulation, applying know-how related to the secure operation of large-scale systems. Security measures with high cost performance are co-created to resolve customers’ security-related challenges.

Vision Design

Rails have assisted the growth of communities by transporting people and products. However, the spread of e-commerce and telework may change the reason why people need transportation. People would be given more priority to think about their activities in their community.
Their expectations to rails may change depending on the maturity of the community: shifting to something that goes beyond transportation.

Feature: Regenerative Medicine

"Contributing to society through the development of superior, original technology and products" has been Hitachi's corporate credo since its inception. Even in the area of research, Hitachi is involved in basic research, building on this foundation to take on the challenges of cutting-edge technology to contribute to resolving challenges in society. This article interviews Dr. Shizu Takeda, Manager of the Hitachi Kobe Laboratory on research in "Regenerative Medicine." Hitachi has been conducting research in this field since 2002, and moved its research base to the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster (Kobe-shi, Hyogo, Japan) in 2017, to begin activity as the Hitachi Kobe Laboratory. Working with partner companies and other research institutions, research & development is being pursued in the form of open innovation.

Case Study

On October 2016, Tokyu Corporation launched the Eki-Shi-Vision app for smartphones and tablets. This service allows customers to check the congestion at Tokyu line stations in real-time. This service has been developed basing on Hitachi's technology that analyzes the stream of people. By sending the picture in real-time congestion of Tokyu line stations, this service enables train users to adjust the riding time, and select the alternative route of the train.

Case Study

Daiichi Seimei created the concept "InsTech" (Insurance x Technology) in 2015, and promotes the concept as the top priority strategic issue of the Daiichi Seimei group. And Hitachi has started creating the Business Innovation of InsTech with Daiichi Seimei. The first collaboration is the development of the "Evaluation Model." By analyzing medical Big Data from 10,000,000 patients, this new model can predict the possibility of hospitalization and the period of stay considering the chronic diseases of the potential subscribers. This new model also improved the standards of insurance acceptance, and expanded the range of the subscribers. Hitachi will develop products that respond well to customers' needs and expand our services.

Demonstration

Hitachi's human symbiotic service robot, was invited to participate in the VIP Halcyon Dialogue Robotics Showcase held on the September 28, 2017. EMIEW3 was developed as a human symbiotic robot, to provide services in a human-centric environment, such as supporting or guiding people in public facilities. The Robotics team at the Global Center for Social Innovation - North America (CSI-NA), was joined by colleagues from CTI-ME in Japan, to demonstrate some of EMIEW3's capabilities.

Case Study

To adapt to the rapid change of the market in the manufacturing industry, it is required to shorten the development period of manufacturing, to realize the Digital Factory that improves the quality of products, and transfer skills from expert workers. Daikin has embarked on digitalization of skills from expert workers that are necessary to make air conditioners by using Hitachi's Image Analyzing System. Daikin will promote co-creation with Hitachi to improve the workers' skills and materialize the Digital Factory.
