LUVENS is a simulation tool for electric field and magnetic field analysis developed by Hitachi to shorten the design period of electrical equipment. Its applications include motors, generators, radio-frequency heating apparatus, medical MRI systems, and various other systems that involve magnets.

It is based on the edge element finite element method, a fast and highly accurate analytical method that can take non-linear magnetic characteristics and overcurrent into account. Various kinds of electrical devices operate in connection with electric circuits, so we have made it possible to analyze devices connected to circuits as well. We are also collaborating with academic institutions to develop technology for large-scale, high-speed analysis of complex magnetic phenomena that takes the magnetic hysteresis characteristic into account. We have also taken on the challenge of developing new analysis technology for faster analysis of electric and magnetic fields. In parallel with that work, we intend to also supplement our set of tools to expedite and support design development for mainly rotating machines. LUVENS is being used by many of the companies in the Hitachi Group as well as by Hitachi, and we plan to reflect the opinions of many users in supplementing the functions of the system.
