We are developing signaling systems that apply digital signal processing technology and wireless technology to make railway systems safer and more reliable. We ale also developing highly reliable hardware, control software and communication protocols etc., to achieve systems that are more compact and have higher performance as well as lower life-cycle cost.
Conventional train signaling systems use dedicated analog hardware for train control, so there are limits to achieving smaller size and higher performance. Introducing general-purpose digital technology and network technology allow compact, distributed hardware and more advanced functions for the train control system. A digital ATC system that transmits control signals through the rails has already been made practical, reducing the operating distance between trains (train headway) and improving riding quality.
