Recent issues in food and product safety, and the establishment of recycling regulations, are contributing to the need for increased safety and security in daily life, as well as an environmentally-friendly society. In business, intensifying competition is fuelling the need for increased efficiency and innovation. In response to these demands, research on implementation of traceability and innovation in supply chains, is being conducted, focusing specifically on (1) information-gathering technologies using ubiquitous devices such as RFID* tags, (2) system technology to manage this huge volume of data, and (3) new services and applications making effective use of RFID tags.
