Security devices such as IC card chips which can be seen on credit and ID cards contain microprocessors which can contain a huge volume of data. Such devices, indispensable in taking advantage of various Internet services such as e-commerce, need to be designed to be tamper resistant in order to prevent unauthorized access or forgery. At Hitachi, R&D on design, development and applications for security devices is being conducted. Secure IC card chip technology is also being applied to mobile phones, PC and HDD, and in the future will be extended to other equipment such as automobiles, consumer appliances, medical equipment, etc.
