Three-dimensional medical measurement using imaging modalities such as X-ray CT (Computed Tomography) and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) has become widespread. Computer visualization has made it possible to confirm the measured data in the form of shaded images, but the huge amount of data makes this process time-consuming. Methods to speed-up the visualization process with programmable GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) are being investigated. This technology will facilitate access to and handling of such large volume data, and will assist in providing high quality medical care in situations such diagnosis, informed consent and planning of treatment.
