A policy-based system management technology was developed to reduce server power consumption in large computer systems such as those in datacenters. Jobs are executed on virtual servers and consolidated on a physical server to reduce the number of the physical servers in operation and achieve low power operation of the system. The technology enables dynamic migration of virtual servers to different physical servers, the automated power consumption control by cooperating with control policy. The user can control the balance between performance and power consumption.
