
OSS (Open Source Software) such as Linux* is now used in a variety of applications, from services such as online shopping sites to enterprise server systems, and can be said described as a crucial component in social IT infrastructure. Performance and reliability of OSS, centering on Linux, are being evaluated, and new tools and alternative code to improve them are being developed to increase user confidence in systems. Further, to contribute to progress in OSS, research results are actively made available to the development community.
