As reflected in the name Web 2.0, recently, there have major innovations in Web technology, such as rich user interfaces similar to PC desktop environments, use of mashup to develop applications, web services, user participation, and single information sources for multiple devices. At Hitachi, we are conducting research on such new Web technology and their application to enterprise information systems. To achieve greater development efficiency, higher reliability and enhanced security in computer systems, areas such as (1) application development technology using scripting languages and frameworks, (2) application execution platforms and architecture providing common functionality, and (3) platform-based inter-application communication interfaces, are being studied.
