Overview of Research Themes. Keywords: NAS blade, active-active failover, tiered storage, snapshots, high-performance storage, low-cost storage

Research on NAS*1, which provides petabyte-level large-scale file sharing system, enabling consolidation and centralized management of data distributed among multiple file servers, is being pursued. Further, to realize enterprise-level high dependability and 24hr-365day business continuity, advanced Linux*2-based technologies are being developed, such as:
(1) Active-active failover for high availability at minimum cost;
(2) Snapshots providing periodic back-up of consistent file system images and enabling end-users to directly restore saved files, and
(3) Tiered storage management which assigns files to an appropriate storage class according to importance.
