The final meeting of ITU-T Study Group 17 (Study Period: 2001 - 2004) was held in Geneva, Switzerland from March 10-19, 2004. This study group, which has been responsible for communications system security at ITU-T, has prepared a variety of Recommendations including those for directory systems (X.500 series), ASN.1, security management, mobile security, and telebiometrics.
At this meeting, Systems Development Laboratory, Hitachi, Ltd. and a representative from Korea prepared a draft contribution titled "Proposal of revised draft of X.mec-1 and X.msec-2" and presented it as a Japan/Korea joint proposal. This contribution reflected the study results on mobile security technology, which had been proposed and discussed in SG17 since March 2001, and consisted of two draft Recommendations. These are Security Technology Framework in End-to-End Data Communications (X.msec-1) and Guidelines for Using PKI in Mobile Systems (X.msec-2). (See Figs. 1, 2, and 3.)
As a Japan representative, Systems Development Laboratory discussed this contribution with Korea, China, United Kingdom, United States, Switzerland, and other countries, and completed final draft Recommendations after three rounds of revisions. At the closing plenary session of this SG17 meeting, these final draft Recommendations were consented as X.1121 and X.1122. And it was agreed that X.1121 and X.1122 would be ready for the AAP (Alternative Approval Process) Last Call, which is a final approval procedure of ITU-T Recommendation.
The plan at SG17 is to use these draft Recommendations as a basis for further study and to prepare additional Recommendations for mobile security.
