Systems Development Laboratory, Hitachi, Ltd. presented two papers. My presentation's title was "An approach of knowledge sharing via empirical knowledge in project management" that deals with the Knowledge Management in Project Management.

In the field of information system development, problematic project seriously affects a many companies' operations since they have a strong interest in project management. One of the activities to improve the success rate of the project is to learn from empirical knowledge in past successes and failures. Making good use of the empirical knowledge requires a mechanism to solve issues: Accumulation of knowledge based on party's subjectivity, Incomprehensible information by a third party, Lack of ability to master knowledge.

In this presentation, we propose knowledge sharing scheme which consist of "Extraction of knowledge," "Structuring of knowledge," "Supporting of utilization of knowledge" (Fig. 1). To operate the mechanism, we develop 3 items: "Analytical method" to analysis of success/failure causes of management, "Knowledge form" which was called "Lesson sheet" to understand the empirical knowledge, "Supporting of utilization of knowledge" to use in ongoing project.

The lesson sheet contains information on understanding the empirical knowledge and how to obtain it. The lesson sheet consists of "For understanding (obverse side)" and "For finding (reverse side)."

The Next International Project Management Conference is scheduled to be Tokyo in 2010.
