Practically every type of business has some kind of schedule that must be observed and followed. Perhaps the most clear-cut example of this is train schedule for services offered by railroads. As cities have become more congested and the needs of passengers more diversified, train schedules have become increasingly complex and overloaded, and the social impact of schedule disruptions due to accidents or disasters is growing. This combination of factors led us to research and develop operations support systems for rapidly restoring transport schedules when problems occur, based on recent advances in operations research and knowledge engineering.
