Development Story

Please give some more detailed information on these systems.

KawaguchiOur sensor network web service is composed of two main components. One is a "sensor gateway"—a compact gateway device that collects sensor information from embedded sensor devices automatically and transmits that information via the Internet. It is easy to use the sensor gateway at home because of only connecting broadband network cables or PHS card named "W-SIM" to the gateway. We don't need a personal computer to collect the data from sensor devices. We developed this system at low cost by adapted μWirelessWeb technology we developed before.
The other component is a sensor-information web server. It consolidates information collected by the sensor gateway in a sensor-information database at a data center and provides service providers with the data they need. Data is provided via an Application Program Interface (API) for web services that makes data processing and linkage with web services like blogs and Social Networking Service (SNS) easier. Currently, we are dealing with sensor information from body composition scales, blood-pressure meters and automatic urine collectors. But in the near future, we are going to add information from various sensors in a house (such as power monitoring sensors, home security sensors and fire alarms) because there are still many kinds of sensor information gathered by sensor networks. As for "scalability" of our system, we can easily handle these added information by modifying the software on the sensor information web server independently from the sensor gateway. We believe our system is useful and affordable to a wide range of service providers saving the costs to reduce.
