Real-time Video Watermarking Technology

Suitable for Live Video Recording and Distribution

Now that the widespread availability of powerful personal computers has made it so easy to copy digital content, digital watermarking technology is attracting enormous interest as a way to prevent unauthorized copying and distribution of digital materials. Increasing penetration of broadband services means that such illegal copying is no longer confined to text and still images but has spread to include music and video. Here I will introduce real-time video watermarking, a very key technology supporting the legitimate distribution of video content. Systems Development Laboratory, Hitachi, Ltd. has now developed a system capable of embedding a digital watermark in video content in real-time using an ordinary and widely available 32-bit personal computer. This system makes content watermarking and tracking vastly more convenient for video content providers.
