A technology that uses properties of light to record and reproduce three-dimensional images. Invented in 1947 by Hungarian physicist, Dennis Gabor.
Holograms, which are created using this technology, have been used on magazine covers and in package design, and because they are difficult to copy, as a means of preventing counterfeit of currency and credit cards.
Research is also progressing on use of holography for recording and play-back of data, and is much expected for applications in optical computers and holographic memory.
