3.6-cm Full-Color poly-Si TFT Displays with Interlaced and
Non-Interlaced Scanning Functions

ABSTRACT

A 3.6-cm (1.4-inch) full-color polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin-film transistor (TFT) display with 345k dots is presented to introduce the new functional technology of both interlaced and non-interlaced scanning. The poly-Si TFT display is suitable for many kinds of display applications, in the form of head mounted display (HMD) or direct-viewing displays, and for displaying beautiful motion or still images with full-color quality.

In order to realize the interlaced function with flicker-less operation, the display has been designed to have a double drain-line structure and a double vertical shift register (V-S/R) system. In the TV-signal mode, the double V-S/R operates with double gate-line selection where the combination is alternated. In the PC-signal mode, the double V-S/R operates with a non-interlaced scanning function as a single S/R.
