Parallel-Processing Operating System for Mission-Critical Information Systems

ABSTRACT

As computerization and globalization advance, an integrated system in the network computing age, as evidenced by the Internet, grows in importance. For a server that processes the large-scale jobs found in an integrated system, a data center system with ample performance is needed to deal with a variety of processing, such as online transaction processing, database processing, and batch processing. In response to that need, Virtual-storage operating system 3 in the forefront of system product (VOS3/FS) was developed as the main operating system for data centers with a variety of parallel processing features.

Because of the diverse configurations of information systems, VOS3/FS has the following features: (a) Allows M Parallel Series computers that differ widely in performance to coexist on the same platform. (b) Allows selection from amongst a variety of parallel processing facilities, such as database parallel and batch parallel facilities, the facility best suited to accomplishing the job. (c) Allows enormous amounts of user resources to be inherited. VOS3/FS is the key to configuring mission-critical information systems oriented toward the 21st century.
