We are now in the so-called multimedia age where people can treat video, audio, and still pictures just like any other data. In support of this trend, Hitachi, Ltd. has developed an MPEG (moving picture experts group) camera. The MPEG camera, weighing only 540 g, records video and audio in MPEG1 format and stores the data in files on a PC card, for example a 260-Mbyte hard disk card. The recorded full-motion video can be viewed on the camera's 1.8-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) screen.
Built-in file management functions enable users to delete and itemize files on the screen. The camera can also record still pictures either with or without audio. Several PC software applications were also developed and are bundled together with the camera, allowing PC users to easily transfer recorded video to a PC and to use the PC to produce, edit, and view full-motion video.
