Elecsys Immunoassay System Using Electro-Chemiluminescence Detection

ABSTRACT

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) has recently been applied as detection technology on the Elecsys1)2010 immunoassay systems developed by Boehringer Mannheim GmbH and Hitachi, Ltd. The combination of ECL and coated magnetic micro-particle technologies results in fast assays with high sensitivity. This is achieved by choosing optimized electrochemically active "substrates" (ruthenium chelates and tris-propylamine, TPA).

The Elecsys 2010 system is a fully automated analyzer with random access capabilities and has been used for in vitro diagnostic purposes in clinical laboratories. The system also features high methodological flexibility with a wide measuring range, continuous access for sample loading and fast STAT function, simple and convenient operation with ready-to-use barcoded reagent rackpacks, carry-over free sample pipetting, and easy calibration and control handling. The advantages of the rethenium chelates and the ECL technology are discussed in this article together with a description of the Elecsys 2010.
