Hitachi Provides New Liquid-Cooling System for Industry-leading Vendors
System to be used in High-end HP Workstations based on AMD Opteron Processors
TOKYO, Japan, January 30, 2007--- Hitachi, Ltd., (NYSE: HIT / TSE: 6501) today announced that it will provide its newly developed Liquid-Cooling System for the latest model of AMD Opteron-based workstations by HP. Hitachi is the industry's leading liquid-cooling manufacturer with products that meet the standards of PC, workstation and server manufacturers worldwide.

With the increasing performance of workstations and increasing capacity of memory chips or other components in the workstation, heat dissipation today is becoming more of an issue. Hitachi developed the Liquid-Cooling System to significantly reduce heat and noise typically generated in high-performance workstation applications. The new system, which is superior to traditional air-cooling with improved performance and reduced noise will be used in the high-end HP xw9400 Workstation.

"We are assured that the HP xw9400 Workstation with Hitachi's Liquid-Cooling System will provide end users with a quiet and comfortable environment. Working with HP is the tip of the iceberg, and we anticipate that other workstation manufacturers will follow suit," said Hideaki Gemma, general manager, IT Thermal Solution Center for Hitachi, Ltd., Ubiquitous Platform Systems Division. "Hitachi is proud to work with HP to deliver the state-of-the art technology as market leaders and wishes to continue working closely with HP to develop even more attractive liquid-cooling products."

"HP is pleased to be the first workstation manufacturer in the United States to offer Hitachi's Liquid-Cooling System in one of our most high-performance workstations," said Jeff Wood, director of product marketing, HP Workstation Global Business Unit. "Hitachi's proven Liquid-Cooling System will be a great benefit for demanding power users in digital content creation, scientific research, manufacturing, and oil and gas exploration applications."

Since the company released the world first liquid-cooled notebook PC, Hitachi's Liquid-Cooling has been used for Desktop PC and server products. Hitachi also is known for its state-of-the-art technology in cooling mainframe computers, which are used for today's PCs and workstations.

Hitachi's Liquid-Cooling System provides an acoustic improvement for idle and CPU max load states, as well as a lower pitch tone that blends easily into background noise. This is made possible by the removal of the CPU heat sink fans and by implementing a higher air flow (low speed) chassis fan for liquid-cooling, utilizing high heat transfer capacity of the liquid.

The new system also provides reliable and safe countermeasures with high control of liquid permeation, degradation, and corrosion, which are Hitachi's core competence. In addition, Hitachi's leading-edge technology in key components such as micro-pumps, has contributed in large part to the product development.

With increasing performance of CPU, graphic chips and other components in the high-end PC or workstations, the demand for liquid-cooling systems is expected to increase. The company expects to see high demand for liquid-cooling in various applications where high-performance and quietness is required.

Hitachi aims to grow the business as a market leader in liquid-cooling systems for PC, workstation and server applications and intends to create a new market in consumer products and industrial fields.
