Hitachi Releases the HD74ALVC16835 and the HD74ALVC162835 High-Speed Standard Logic ICs Supporting 100 MHz Memory Bus

- Optimized for DIMMS installed with high-speed synchronous DRAM -

Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT) today announced the release of two new models in the HD74ALVC1 series of standard logic ICs-the HD74ALVC16835 (with no output damping resistor) and the HD74ALVC162835 (with built-in 26 damping resistor)-for use in 100 MHz memory bus compatible synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) memory module bus drivers. The new models will go on sale in late April 1998.

The introduction of low-voltage, high-speed, high- functionality CPUs and memory in recent years has also led to demands for higher speed and functionality from the standard logic ICs used in personal computers, workstations, servers, and similar equipment. As system bus frequencies continue to increase, in particular, bus driver/bus transceiver ICs have become essential for connecting high-speed memory such as synchronous DRAM - the future mainstream memory type - to the CPU bus.

The HD74ALVC16835 and the HD74ALVC162835 are high-speed standard logic ICs optimized as bus drivers for SDRAM memory modules supporting a 100 MHz memory bus. Use of these ICs in SDRAM modules ensures a dependable output current and reduces reflected noise, enabling stable high-speed data transfer to be achieved with workstations, servers, and similar equipment.

The HD74ALVC series comprises high-speed-drive standard logic ICs that employ a 0.5 micrometer CMOS process, are specialized for low-voltage operation (recommended power supply voltage Vcc = 2.3 V to 3.6 V), and enable a propagation delay time (tpd) of 2 ns (typ.) to be achieved (Vcc = 3.3 V), while offering excellent drivability, with an output current (Io) of +/-24 mA.

In addition to the HD74ALVC16835 and the HD74ALVC162835, Hitachi has already released 37 models for various uses, classified into the HD74ALVCH16xxx/H162xxx series, featuring a built-in bus hold circuit that eliminates the need for pull-up/pull-down resistors in the input block and improves input data reliability, and the HD74ALVC162xxx/H162xxx series with a built-in 26-equivalent output damping resistance, designed for output noise reduction. TSSOP 48/56-pin thin packages are used, for smaller, thinner application products. Hitachi also plans to develop new models that will anticipate future needs, including clock driver PLL ICs required for SDRAM memory modules.
