Dai Nippon Construction - Hitachi Joint Venture
Awarded a Contract for a Sewage Water Treatment Infrastructure
Project in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

Tokyo, Japan, October 14, 2015 --- Dai Nippon Construction (“DNC”) and Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501, “Hitachi”) announced today that a joint venture formed between DNC and Hitachi has received an order from Kumul Consolidated Holdings (formerly Independent Public Business Corporation) in the Independent State of Papua New Guinea (Papua New Guinea) for sewage water treatment infrastructure facilities in Port Moresby, the Capital of Papua New Guinea. The total value of the order is approximately 13.3 billion yen*1. This project will be undertaken through an Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan from the Japanese government.

At present, sewage in the coastal area of Port Moresby is released into the ocean without being sufficiently treated. This has resulted in a deterioration of the hygienic environment in coastal regions, as well as damage to the marine environment, including the bleaching of coral reefs. The goal of this project is to improve urban and lifestyle hygiene in the city of Port Moresby, and to secure the water quality required for the inhabitation of coral reefs. Project operations will include the construction of a sewage water treatment plant with a treatment capacity of 18,400m3/day, ocean outfall, access road, trunk sewer pipeline and branch sewer networks, as well as construction and rehabilitation of pump stations. DNC will be in charge of civil engineering, building construction, and mechanical/electrical installations, while Hitachi will be responsible for the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical facilities.

This will be the first ODA project in the water field to apply the Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP)*2. The order was secured based on recognition of the technical capabilities and expertise possessed by both DNC and Hitachi.

By participating in this project, DNC and Hitachi will contribute to the advancement of social infrastructures in Papua New Guinea, and to the preservation of the marine environment.
