We are in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. My thoughts go out to anyone afflicted with this virus and to their families, as well as those who have lost loved ones in this pandemic. To the heroes fighting against this pandemic - I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

During this difficult time, the Hitachi Group prioritizes the health and safety of its employees and their families as well as its customers, suppliers, partners and other stakeholders, while continuing as far as possible its economic activities.

Hitachi is a global business with a wide portfolio including IT for digital solutions, energy solutions, railway systems, building systems such as elevators, systems for industries and logistics, water and environment systems, automotive systems, and home appliances.

The impact of COVID-19 differs in business sectors and regions, so our employees around the world are following the instructions of national, regional and local Governments to stay safe, while working to maintain infrastructure and support customers.

For example, our work in railway maintenance helps healthcare providers and other people fighting against COVID-19 to get to the places where they are needed. And our IT systems support financial and public services that underpin our daily life.

JR Automation, a Hitachi Group company, has started producing face masks together with a customer in the US, to address the serious issue of face mask shortage.

Some of our manufacturing sites are still closed in the hardest-hit countries, but many Hitachi Group employees are working from home to support customers and communities.

COVID-19 has had an immense impact on China, but now 70 percent of the Hitachi Group’s activities in the country have fully resumed, to help the communities win back their pre-pandemic lives.

I am truly thankful and proud of all our Hitachi employees working to support customers and society.

Hitachi was founded 110 years ago with the mission statement, “contribute to society through the development of superior, original technology and products,” and this is the mission we keep pursuing.

With this mission in mind, I will take the lead, and we will work together with our customers, partners and other stakeholders, in order to overcome this crisis. We are in this together.
