Elevators, Escalators

Hitachi contributes to energy saving by applying various functions such as eco-mode operation and LED lighting to its products.

Contributing to solving environmental issues

Contributing to the reduction of energy consumption by buildings increasing with urbanization

With the progress of worldwide urbanization, population is concentrated in urban areas, and high and large buildings are increasing. The world's population is expected to exceed 9.7 billion by 2050 and 68 percent of it will live in urban areas. Under such situations, it's an important issue to reduce the energy usage of elevators and escalators that are indispensable in an urban life.

Key Environmental Technologies

Hitachi is globally promoting the supply of elevators and escalators based on the core concept of supplying systems that proactively anticipate unconscious human behavior. In addition, its products have energy-saving performance as a basic specification.

Elevators

LED ceiling lighting

Energy-saving performance is increased and long-life ceiling lighting is achieved.

LED ceiling lighting

Energy-saving specification

Power consumption is reduced by about 5%*2 by increasing the efficiency of the electronic devices and the machine brake.

Regeneration system

Regenerative power generated according to the operating status of the elevator is effectively used for lighting and air conditioners in the building. The power consumption of the elevator is reduced by about 30% maximum. *3

Escalators

LED balustrade lighting and automatic light-off system

By applying LED lighting and the automatic light-off system when carrying no passengers to the balustrade lighting, power consumption is reduced by about 73%.*4

Eco-mode operation

The weight of passengers riding on the escalator is detected based on the inverter load information. Power usage is reduced about 821 kWh/year by decreasing the escalator's speed when few passengers are being carried.*5

Eco-mode operation

Automatic speed reduction system

The speed of the escalator is reduced when a sensor detects no passenger for a certain time. Power usage is reduced by about 1,970 kWh/year.*5

Automatic operating system

The speed of the escalator is reduced when a sensor detects no passenger for a certain time. Power usage of about 3,612 kWh/year is reduced.*6

Compared with Hitachi's standard elevator Urban Ace sold in 2012. The effect can be obtained in normal operation (according to a survey conducted by Hitachi Building Systems).
*3
The effect can be obtained in normal operation (according to a survey conducted by Hitachi Building Systems). The effect varies depending on the usage status in each case.
*4
Compared with the existing MX Series. The turn-off time is calculated to be six hours, which is the same period of time as the energy-saving, speed reduction operation when carrying no passengers.
*5
Compared with the existing MX Series. The S1000 model (not equipped with lighting) is used for effect calculation with a rise of 5 m based on 13-hour operation per day. The energy-saving operation time is set based on the actual performance of the VX Series in 2010.
