Application Programming Interface
Functions used commonly by various pieces of software are provided as components (namely, APIs) which are called up and used during software processing. For example, basic functions such as creating new folders and displaying characters are provided as APIs. A merit of using APIs is that man-hours involved in development can be reduced because a developer does not have to make all functions from scratch.
