A public-key-type cryptographic technique thought up in 1985. Utilizing the mathematical rules for elliptic curves, an Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem attains the same level of security as RSA cryptosystem but uses a shorter key length. Since it enables high-speed cryptographic processing on mobile devices with a small memory capacity, it is finding widespread applications.
