Universal Disk Format

Show Index

Explanation

UDF is one type of file format for optical disks. It was drawn up by the Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA), an American industrial body for promoting standardization of optical disks, and standardized by bodies such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
UDF aims to create data compatibility between different operating systems (OSs) and allow data to be mutually handled by various media. Its special features include compatibility with media with data-storage capacity of up to 128 TiB (where one tebibyte (TiB) equals 240 bytes), writing in units of 512 bytes, and handling Unicode characters of file names.
