3. Redefining Head Office Functions
The role of the Head Office staff has been sharply defined to reflect the shift of administrative power to the Groups. (Abbreviated organizational chart of Hitachi, Ltd.) Personnel required for management functions and the minimum functions legally required by a corporation are defined as the "corporate staff," which consists of around 400 persons working under top management. Personnel needed for efficiently providing the Groups with indispensable services of a high-level technical nature are defined as the "business staff." The business staff started in April with about 700 people. Expenses related to the business staff are in principle borne by the Group benefiting from the services. As staff functions become more specialized and the Groups solidify their autonomy, the contraction of the Head Office is expected to continue. |
