A Society Without Walls, Built From Pluralistic Individuals

All citizens will be guaranteed internet access and basic literacy in ICT. Remote-control interfaces will permeate public spaces, facilitating the coming and going of robots in public spaces, replacing physical human labor.

Although new lifestyles will give those who once struggled with mobility or outside activity the opportunity to participate in society, workplace and social conventions and systems will not change overnight. This could lead to situations where only superficial accommodations are made for workers. As most communication goes online, prejudice and cultural mismatch will continue to be problems that must be addressed.

As cyberspace becomes one of the main places where we spend our lives, people will use multiple avatars for different settings or purposes, and thus their personalities as individuals will become pluralistic. Individual avatars will form units around common interests or problems, and engage in a variety of activities. For the most part, people will conduct commercial or charitable activities with others as composite entities, thus transforming the meaning of concepts such as "responsible party", as well as contracts and warranty programs.

People will be able to freely engage in all kinds of social activities that they couldn't before, for example due to physical constraints or anonymity concerns. This will promote citizens' involvement in society.

Until now, IT has been evaluated by its ability to increase productivity. However, going forward, we must inspire the world by showing IT's potential to break down entrenched barriers and change the world.
