IoT solutions

Hitachi has been making efforts for reduction of CO2 emissions in the value chains of diverse business types and sizes, including the manufacturing industry, transportation industry, restaurant business and others by utilizing IoT.

Contributing to solving environmental issues

Lowering CO2 emissions by utilizing the Smart IoT service

The Smart IoT service supports cloud services and various types of SI services offering data collection, data management, data visualization, automatic alarm notification if any abnormality is detected.

This Service automatically collects such environmental data as shop or building temperature, humidity, electric power and CO2 levels in addition to operational data of industrial devices, and accumulates the collected data in the cloud built at Hitachi's data center. In restaurants, it monitors and measures temperatures in refrigerators and automatically transfers the data on a 24-hour basis using IoT and manages the data in the cloud. It can also help to shorten the time required to monitor temperature and reduce food loss while contributing to lowering CO2 emissions during monitaring operation and over the life cycle of food. operation. In calculations modeled on 1,200 shops in a major restaurant chain in Japan (with temperature monitoring at 12 locations in each restaurant), use of this service reduced CO2 emissions by 47%. This CO2 emission reduction rate was calculated using SI-LCA*, an environment assessment method for services and solutions, and the assessment is based on the CO2 emission reduction at operation stages.

Key Environmental Technologies

Automated remote monitoring

The Smart IoT service accumulates all data collected from equipment and sensors on servers in the cloud, and continuously monitors abnormalities. If any abnormality is detected during the monitoring, it notifies the managers of a shop, building, plant and so on via an alarm, including descriptions of the abnormality that occurred. The monitoring schedule is separately customizable for each day of operation, enabling settings for 24-hour operations, extra business days and power stoppage. With the meticulous automated monitoring, the Smart IoT service enables lower operation costs, immediate abnormality detection and response. It contributes to the improvement of quality of services by customers.

Diverse alarms

The Smart IoT service offers diverse alarms that can be issued if any abnormality is detected. This service includes basic alarm functions such as e-mail, phone call or fax, and supports other functions according to the customer environment and requests.

Visualization and reporting functions based on user management

The Smart IoT service offers a customer's own website, accessible from PC and smartphone browsers at any time. In the dedicated website, with the user management function, verification of the latest operation conditions of equipment and sensors; display of graphs; and downloading of temperature history and alarm history are available in accordance with the user permissions. Thus the necessary information is available as needed within an appropriate scope of disclosure.
