To realize Society 5.0, Hitachi’s design process starts by understanding people and thinking
about the ideal society. Drawing a picture of the future desired by society based
on observation of human behavioral processes and understanding of the issues faced by society,
the benefits are visualized to foster consensus. It is the role of design to then create
new value through co-creation with customers and local communities. Our mission is
to use the power of design to create a wide range of user experiences from home electric appliances
to societal system solutions, and raise peoples’ quality of life.
Product design entails consideration of hardware/software product usability and aesthetics.
Hitachi’s product designers deal with a wide range of Hitachi Group products, from home appliances to public-use products.
Guided by the theme “Designing Society 5.0,” Hitachi is aiming to bring its digital technologies to society with human-centric design.
New services are being created to realize value for customers and society to achieve digital transformation and the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs). We are also supporting people who are planning new businesses to identify issues, find solutions, and prove value with “NEXPERIENCE which is the methodology based on design thinking and service engineering technology.
Regarding Society 5.0 as a concept for creating a society that emphasizes enhancing human creativity rather than productivity and efficiency, Hitachi’s vision design activities are involving local communities and other stakeholders in concretely and practically considering new social systems required to make this a reality.
