Formed by employees of Hitachi Group companies in North America, Community Action Committees carry out community services such as volunteer activities and donations at various locations where companies operate.
The Community Action Committees organize and lead a food drive (food donation campaign) every July. Foods and funds collected from employees are donated to local food banks, etc., which distribute food to people in need in the community.
European Social Innovation Forum
Hitachi's European Social Innovation Forum, started in 2016, has the mission to be a platform where the impact of new technologies on European society is addressed, debated and assessed. By engaging with various stakeholders Hitachi contributes to the shaping of public policies and the solving of societal challenges, with an aim to ensure a better quality of life for European citizens.
From 1998, Hitachi organized the EU Hitachi Science & Technology Forum for 17 years in different European cities and the European Social Innovation Forum has inherited the tradition and network of the EU Hitachi Science & Technology Forum. The past topics, related to the impact on European Society of new technologies or their application, covered ICT, Energy, Transportation, Urbanization, Environment, Water, Healthcare and Life Science, amongst others.
Hitachi, Ltd. is providing classroom programs for elementary and junior high school students leveraging its IT resources, with employee volunteers working as lecturers. For elementary school students, we offer a program aimed at improving children's "information morals", and for junior high school students, a program designed to enhance their information literacy by utilizing IT devices. Lectures will be given from the standpoint of an IT company looking at the extent to which IT can be applied towards society in order to enable people to live safely, comfortably, and with peace of mind.
"Buy and Help Society! Bazaar"
Hitachi Group has been carrying out "Buy and Help Society! Bazaar" since 2010 as a program in which employees can buy products from NPOs, such as International cooperation organizations and welfare work-shops, as a way of easily and pleasantly making a social contribution.
Since 2012, with the theme of supporting Tohoku reconstruction, we invited organizations supporting reconstruction activities in the disaster-affected area to participate in the events held at various Group companies' offices.
