Empowering Education, Inspiring Young Minds

April 20 2026

In FY2025, Hitachi Group in Indonesia launched the School Library Revitalisation program, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at improving access to education and fostering literacy among students.

The program is conducted in collaboration with Filantra, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to driving social impact through CSR, community development and philanthropy in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.

This initiative brings together three Hitachi Group companies to revitalise libraries across three elementary schools in Jakarta, creating safe, engaging and inspiring learning environments that support students’ educational journeys.

Building on our foundation of community support after the 2022 Cianjur Earthquake

The school library revitalisation programme builds upon Hitachi Group in Indonesia’s ongoing partnership with Filantra and its long-term commitment to community development. In 2023, following the 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Cianjur, West Java, Hitachi Group worked with Filantra to support the rebuilding of schools that were damaged by the disaster.

Without access to proper facilities, many students faced disruptions to their studies. To help address this critical need, Hitachi supported both infrastructure restoration and recovery efforts.

A total amount of IDR125,000,000 (approximately USD8,300) in donations was collected to fund repairs to school facilities and enabled schools to resume operations in a safe and conducive environment. The efforts restored not only physical infrastructure but also the confidence and motivation of students and teachers alike.

Enriching learning experiences through resources

Building on these recovery efforts, the FY2025 CSR program focuses on strengthening educational resources and enriching learning experiences.

Alongside with numerous resources, close to IDR70 million  (approximately USD4,000) were donated by three Hitachi Group companies:

  • PT Hitachi Asia Indonesia

  • PT Hitachi High-Tech Indonesia

  • PT Hitachi Channel Solutions Indonesia

All efforts were carried out throughout the months of January and February 2026.

The CSR kickstarted with an opening speech from Koji Hachiya, former Managing Director of PT Hitachi Asia Indonesia, who shared about his career journey with Hitachi and offered encouragement to the students.

Key components of the initiative include:

  1. Library Renovation
    • Various resources, such as 6 sets of bookshelves, 105 reading desks, and 3 cabinets, were sponsored by Hitachi. The upgraded facilities provide safe, comfortable, and inspiring spaces to encourage reading and independent learning.
  2. Book Donations
    • Close to 200 reading books were donated. The curated collection of educational and storybooks helps expand access to age-appropriate reading materials and foster a school culture of literacy.
  3. Digital Corner
    • These additional dedicated spaces equipped with basic digital learning tools introduce students to digital literacy and support broader access to information.
  4. Community Engagement
    • Hitachi employees volunteered their time to organise donated resources and conduct reading sessions, strengthening connections with the school community and encouraging sustainable learning engagements.

Creating lasting impact via education

At Hitachi, education is viewed as a powerful enabler of social progress. By supporting learning opportunities and improving access to educational resources, Hitachi Group companies in Indonesia aim to create a lasting, positive societal impact that benefits the local communities.

Great partnerships are formed when we ask what's next?

Through our continuous collaboration with partners, Hitachi remains committed to advancing its social mission and helping students of today build the foundations for a better tomorrow.
